The History Channel is not a nerd's history channel

Lately, I've been watching the History Channel. A lot. A nauseating amount, to be perfectly honest. I love watching the History Channel, especially the bits about engineering like Modern Marvels. I'm also a but of a history buff, so the History Channel and I should be a perfect fit. It's a way for me to watch TV and feel like I haven't completely wasted my time. While it doesn't always help, it's really all I've got.

So, as I was saying, I've been watching a lot of History Channel. In that time, I've realized that it doesn't really do much for a nerd's curiosity. It gives a top-level synopsis of certain events. That's really all it's made for. Most people aren't interested in that anyway. So, I watch an hour of the History Channel and spend another 3 on Wikipedia and JSTOR. It's sad, really.

So I go to Wikipedia, and just like everyone else click something slightly off-topic, and then another, and another. Somehow, I get to Batman (Comic book hero) or tapirs (browsing mammals). Really, it just goes to show that the History Channel is not doing well enough. Where's the in-depth analysis of Jesus' mistresses? How do you expect me to go without knowing whether the real-life Leonidas is as friggin' awesome as the 300 king? Oh, and I might want some more analysis of everything else with that, too.

Not that I'm picky or nerdy or any of that. Those are labels. Labels are bad.

That's what teacher tells me.
